Dr Theivendran is an Australian trained Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, consulting and operating across Sydney’s North Shore and Northern Beaches. He has 10 years of experience at the highest level, working across the busy public and private sectors, performing complex and routine vascular surgery.

Common Conditions Treated:
- Peripheral artery disease (PAD) – narrowed or blocked arteries in the limbs, organs and brain arising from atherosclerosis
- Aortic aneurysm (thoracic and abdominal) – pathological dilatation of the main artery in the body
- Varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency leading to complications or aesthetic concern
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) – blood clots in the deep veins, usually of the legs
- Pelvic congestion and compression syndromes
- Thoracic outlet syndrome
- Diabetic vascular complications (foot ulcers, poor circulation)
- Vascular trauma or injury

- Endovascular surgery (minimally invasive) – angioplasty, stenting, atherectomy, endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR)
- Open vascular surgery – bypass grafting, endarterectomy, aneurysm repair
- Carotid endarterectomy or stenting – to reduce stroke risk
- Dialysis access surgery – creation and maintenance of arteriovenous (AV) fistulas or grafts
- Varicose vein treatment – endovenous laser therapy, radiofrequency ablation, sclerotherapy, vein stripping, Cutera dermal laser ablation
- Thrombectomy or thrombolysis – removal or dissolution of clots
- Wound and limb salvage surgery – especially for diabetic foot ulcers or critical limb ischaemia
- Vascular trauma repair – repairing damaged blood vessels after injury

- Harbour Vascular Laboratory (bulk billed) – available in St Leonards and Frenchs Forest – fully accredited provider of vascular ultrasound and duplex scanning (advanced ultrasound technology creating real-time images and measurement of blood flow in arteries and veins, diagnosing blockages (stenosis), clots (DVT), aneurysms, and venous insufficiency non-invasively, often replacing more invasive tests)
- Non-invasive vascular testing (ankle-brachial index, segmental pressures)
- CT angiography or MR angiography referrals and interpretation
Dr Theivendran established Harbour Vascular with the aim of providing a first-class clinical experience to those seeking specialist vascular care. He provides individually-tailored vascular surgical services using the latest evidence-based surgical therapy, with contemporary techniques and multidisciplinary support to ensure the very best outcome is achieved for each patient.
Dr Theivendran grew up in Melbourne to migrant parents from Sri Lanka and attended Ivanhoe Grammar School in Melbourne. He obtained his medical degree (MBBS) at Monash University and completed his internship at The Austin Hospital. Dr Theivendran moved to Sydney in 2009 and completed Specialist Surgical Training in General Surgery and obtained his Fellowship in General Surgery in 2012, becoming a Specialist General Surgeon.
He was challenged by Vascular Surgery and undertook further four years of Fellowship training in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery in Auckland City Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital Sydney, Royal North Shore Hospital Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney. He obtained his Fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and worked as a Consultant Vascular and Transplant Surgeon at Austin, Northern and Epworth Health in Melbourne before moving back to Sydney.
Dr Theivendran has an interest in minimally invasive endovascular surgery, which was fostered during his extensive training and practice in Australia and internationally. He has spent time working abroad in centres of innovation and excellence in Hong Kong and London, gaining significant experience at high-volume centres of excellence. He has presented in international meetings and peer reviewed journals. He takes interest in teaching the next generation of surgeons and is involved in the General Surgery selection of candidates for advanced training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Dr Theivendran is a member of the Australian Medical Association, The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian and New Zealand Society for Vascular Surgery.
